- Early and Total Neonatal Mortality in Relation to Birth Setting in the United States, 2006-2009
- Recent study shows the opposite marginal relationship to that reported in the 1970's. Could this be related to the selection for home births being less 'stringent' now?
- Could the misinterpretation of a marginal relationship in the 1970s suggesting that home births were safer than hospital births have led to an increase in home births will less selection based on prior risk leading to an increase in exposure to harmful risks.
- Note that the 1970 study and the current study may fail to be comparable in many ways. For example, the comparison is of midwives at home and in the hospital so that higher risk doctor-mediated births in hospitals are excluded in the comparison.
